Samsung's newest Gear is also its most ambitious. The Gear S smartwatch packs a curved two-inch display, IP67 ingress protection, and a custom Tizen UI into a cuff-like wristband that weighs in at a surprisingly airy 66g. Oh, and it packs cellular and WiFi connectivity along with the usual Bluetooth. That last important detail makes the Gear S more than just your typical smartwatch. As we discovered during our first hands-on at IFA 2014, the Gear S is capable of fully independent operation, smartphone or no. Sure, you still need a smartphone to set it up –and a Samsung one at that– ...

With the Motorola-made Nexus 6 starting to arrive in customer's hands, the Nexus 4 is hardly noteworthy anymore. It's screen was a measly 720p and measured 4.7-inches with a pixel density of less than 320. With a quad-core Snapdragon APQ8064 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and an Adreno 320 GPU, LG's Nexus 4 was a powerhouse - back in its day. It shipped with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but got fairly timely updates all the way up to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Then tragedy struck. Google's support window on devices follows the industry standard of about 18-months. The Nexus 4 was announced in October ...

If you’re shopping for a new smartwatch in the Google Play Store, you’re faced with a sea of choices from chic to super-minimal … but only one stands out as a watch that would survive an extended dose of real-world use and abuse. If that's the kind of thing that winds your crown, then the LG G Watch R is very possibly your next Android Wear smartwatch. The G Watch R brings more to the table than its hulking stainless-steel body, of course. Its P-OLED display is just as sharp and vibrant as the Super AMOLED on Samsung's Gear Live, and it's a perfect circle to boot. Its software load ...

It might be a bit unfair to compare the aluminum unibodied HTC One M8 to virtually anything else not made of the sleek metal, but how can you possibly compare the four Ultra Pixel camera on the M8 to a smartphone sporting a 13MP shooter? Thankfully, HTC makes another variant of its popular One, the HTC One E8. As a refresher, the HTC One E8 includes most of the same specifications as its aluminum-clad big-brother, the One M8. Unlike the M8, the E8 opts for polycarbonate rather than aluminum, and includes a 13MP main camera. Both of these features make the One E8 a much better platform ...

On paper, Motorola's latest DROID carries on the brand's storied legacy in spectacular fashion. A tablet-sized battery mated to a searing hot processor and a super-sharp display, with the whole thing wrapped in a splashproof casing of metallized glass (or better yet, ballistic nylon). "This is what the Moto X should have been!" cried the commenters on our initial hands-on several weeks back. Well, maybe not. While the DROID Turbo did quite well against the second-generation Moto X in last month's face-off, another twelve days of testing ultimately demonstrated why the X is the ...

HTC is out to prove it can do cameras just as good - if not better - than everyone else. It recently announced the HTC RE Camera, and the HTC Desire EYE: a smartphone that has a front-facing selfie-shooter that's almost as good as the primary camera on the back. About a month ago HTC invited us out to New York City to show off it's new "camera-centric" lineup, and Michael Fisher brought us an early hands-on with the Desire EYE. It's a stout device, about the same size as the Nexus 5 that I pack with me every day, though a little taller. It's powered by a 2.3 GHz, quad-core Snapdragon 801 ...

LG G Watch R vs Moto 360. As far as Android Wear videos go, it's our most-requested comparison of 2014 – and a week after unboxing the G Watch R, we've finally gotten around to it as promised. They’re two of the only round-faced smartwatches you can find today, and there’s only a $50 difference between them. But despite their surface similarities and near-identical software, these Android wearables are targeted at two totally different types of customer. The G Watch R is a P-OLED packing powerhouse of a smartwatch, with a Snapdragon 400 under the hood protected by a rugged ...

If one of the best selling smartphones in the world has only gotten more popular as it slims itself down, then there must be a market that really cares about this. Oppo has seen this over the last couple of years with its R lineup, and after the success of the R3 earlier this year, the new Oppo R5 takes slimness to a whole new level. We've still got more coverage coming to you from Singapore, and in this next video, we intend to give you a quick idea of what it's like to hold the Oppo R5 beside its nearest competitor, the iPhone 6. You might think that the Oppo R5 is too thin and easily ...

Google’s newest tablet is for “movers and makers,” according to the company’s website. We’ll examine more about what exactly that means in the weeks ahead, but for now, we'll settle for getting to know the shell of the device in our Nexus 9 unboxing. The de-packaging experience itself is best described as minimal. The Nexus 9 comes in a fairly nondescript box with bare-bones branding calling out its Android ancestry, and once you get inside all you’ll find is some very low-key literature and a USB charging cable with wall wart. That wall adapter's design will be ...

Just as happened last year, Motorola has two great phones available now on Verizon Wireless. The newly-announced DROID Turbo and Moto X both have their ups and downs, but which is the better overall pick for you to spend your hard-earned dollars on? Our DROID Turbo vs Moto X 2014 comparison video, embedded down below, will help you make the decision. On paper, there's a pretty vast difference here – the camera's megapixel count on the DROID Turbo smokes that of the Moto X, the Turbo's processor is considerably more powerful, its display is superior as far as pixel density is concerned, ...
