The Galaxy Note Edge is a Galaxy Note 4 with a little something extra – 409,000 little somethings, actually. They're the pixels making up the display extension along the phone's right-hand side, a curved strip of AMOLED that Samsung calls the "Edge screen." It's built to add functionality to an already-potent portfolio of features ... but it also adds cost, and sacrifices some of the fit and finish we really appreciate on the Note 4. With both Notes on shelves this holiday season, we thought it wise to compare the new Notes and see what you're buying when you opt for one or the ...

Right at the tail end of last week we checked out the latest information attempting to clue us in as to what to expect form Samsung's spring 2015 flagship, the phone we're all expecting to arrive as the Galaxy S6. Instead of stuff like curved screens, we were looking at straightforward benchmark data – and from what was revealed, the handset sure looked like a solid one, rocking an octa-core Exynos 7420, a quad HD display, 3GB of RAM, and a 20MP camera. Problem is, benchmarks aren't always the most reliable source for intel on a new phone, and especially when we're only looking at ...

The best-kept secrets are ones that have been in our phones for months, it seems. After all's been said and done in our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, we're now just learning some details about one crucial component, the display. Corning, makers of the Gorilla Glass line of products, has thrown us a curveball today, letting us know about the Samsung Galaxy Alpha Gorilla Glass 4 employment for the cover glass has gone unnoticed until now. The glass is just 0.4 millimeters thin, allowing for the premium, thin look Samsung went for with the Alpha smartphone. The Gorilla Glass 4 also ...

It's a dance we know all too well: Samsung delivers its latest flagship model, only to come back a few months later with a tweaked version running some even more impressive silicon. The Galaxy S4 launched with a Snapdragon 600, only for Samsung to follow that up with a Snapdragon 800 version for LTE-A networks in South Korea. And after the GS5 arrived with its Snapdragon 801, Samsung came back with an LTE-A version that didn't just step up to a Snapdragon 805, but also gave the phone a huge resolution bump up to quad HD. We could be about to see another move along these lines, as rumors ...

It's been over three months now since the Gear VR went official at Samsung's IFA Unpacked event, ready to bring new Note 4 owners into the world of mobile virtual reality. Last month the manufacturer told us that we could expect to see the headset land for sale in the US sometime in early December, but Samsung wasn't ready to reveal a specific date. This week, it looks like that time time has finally come, as we see the Gear VR quietly go up for sale on both Samsung's and AT&T's websites. Just as anticipated, the headset sells for a cool $200. Both Samsung and AT&T sales look to be ...

Tomorrow is December 6. And while that date may not mean a lot on its own, it marks the one month point from the official start of CES 2015, taking place in Las Vegas from January 6 through 9. Smartphone companies have already been getting their PR machines running, announcing plans for their respective CES press events: we heard from Sony a few weeks back, and earlier today we were talking about Xiaomi's plans. But now it's time for one of the biggest brands in mobile tech to schedule its own CES event, as Samsung clues us in to its pre-CES press conference. Samsung's event will start the ...

Yesterday we saw Samsung finally get its Lollipop update ball rolling, beginning distribution of Android 5.0 for the Galaxy S5. While initial availability was highly region-restricted, it was still a big step forward. But what does the existence of that update spell for updates designed for other Samsung hardware? At the time, we speculated a little about what yesterday's development could mean for future US carrier-specific GS5 Lollipop updates, but today we're looking at the rest of Samsung's device lineup, as word arrives of when we might hope to start seeing those release go out. The ...

We're almost done with 2014. That means CES 2015 is mere weeks away, and that we'll be seeing the major flagships of the year released just months from now. And if we're just months away, it's time for all the excitement to begin, as we slowly start hearing leaks of the device up until the announcement next year. We have a pretty big tidbit to share today, a preliminary Samsung Galaxy S6 benchmark straight out of AnTuTu through a screenshot posted by CNMO. There's no way for us to be entirely sure that this is the Galaxy S6 (and even if it is, it's highly unlikely to be a final production ...

Samsung has been up to a lot of changes in order to make a comeback. Some of these changes include reducing its smartphone lineup to the bare essentials, something that we highly praise at a time when the Galaxy lineup has diluted more than the folks at Korea would like. There are some negative changes as well, mainly to do with the company downsizing its corporate structure, but it could just be that this is the beginning. New leaks show that Samsung is working on a couple of devices that are currently being dubbed the Samsung SM-E500F and SM-E700H. The report claims that both of these ...

Samsung's last few quarters haven't painted a pretty picture for investors. The company has failed to wow the world with devices like the Galaxy S5, barely reaching 60% of its sales goals, and placing even the company's CEO of Mobile in the short list for a pink slip. We recently learned that J.K. Shin will keep his job after all, but that doesn't mean that there won't be a corporate shakeup. The news are that Samsung is already sending out pink slips to numerous executives in lower positions, though by lower, we're talking directly bellow J.K. Shin. The report claims that vice presidents, ...

Back in October, before even Nexus phones had Android 5.0 updates available, we heard rumors about Samsung's update timetable for its flagship models. Among the details mentioned there was the idea that the Galaxy S5's Lollipop release could be ready sometime in December. More recently, we've seen an Android 5.0 GS5 ROM leak, but still no official distribution. Well, we're only a few days into December at this point, and now it looks like those earlier rumors are already coming true, as Samsung's spotted releasing its GS5 Lollipop update in select markets. News of this update comes to us ...

Though Samsung hasn't chosen to go official with its newest smartphone quite yet, as we often do we've received a helping hand in piecing together information from a regulatory agency's helping hand, this time China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center (TENAA). Today's Samsung Galaxy A7 leak spills the beans on many of the phone's features, including the fact that this will be the Korean OEM's thinnest phone to date. Let's have a look. Let's talk design language to start off. The look of the phone resembles Samsung's whole Alpha, or A-series, lineup. There's generous use of ...

Samsung's Gear S is a very interesting smartwatch – there's little denying that much. From its curved screen to its integrated 3G radio, it clearly stands apart from the vast majority of its smartwatch competition. In a new blog post published today, Samsung attempts to remind us just how unique the Gear S is, talking about the decisions that led to its design. And while all that's very interesting, it also reveals a bit of tunnel vision wherein Samsung can't seem to see past its own product lines. Let's touch on those design choices first, because there really is some neat stuff here. ...

Samsung hasn't necessarily won much love lately with its speed at adopting new versions of Android. The company was last to serve KitKat to some of its flagships this year, and even then, the company chose not to upgrade its TouchWiz UI to resemble the newer Galaxy smartphones. Today things change a little as we find that LG is already serving Lollipop to some, so it's only logical that its worse rival does something about it. We've seen leaks of the Android 5.0 Lollipop running on the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 already, and we also know details of the platform running on the Galaxy Note 3. ...

It's harder than ever to compete in the mobile system-on-a-chip space these days, if for no other reason than the presence of juggernauts like Qualcomm with both such a variety of SoC designs, as well as a pipeline that seems to constantly be delivering newly improved chips, that there barely seems to be an opening for any serious competition. Nonetheless, opponents have persisted with their efforts, especially when it comes to device makers themselves with their own custom SoC layouts. Samsung's found itself at the forefront of that struggle, with its Exynos-series components powering (at ...
