Acer Developing Sub-$250 Eight-Inch and Ten-Inch Quad-Core Androids
Back during the Consumer Electronics Show, we heard Acer announce its Iconia B1 Android tablet (above), a model that, while it didn’t deliver specs that could even compete with the Nexus 7, managed to catch our attention due to a launch price of only $150. Apparently, the B1 isn’t the full extent of Acer’s interest in tacking the low-cost tablet market, and now a company exec has tipped off the forthcoming arrival of similarly budget-priced eight-inch and ten-inch tablets.
According to this, the company is shooting for a launch price somewhere around $200 for the eight-incher, and even more impressively, of less than $250 for the ten-inch model.
While these two will still feature hardware that reflects their budget nature, from what little we know it sounds like they’ll be slightly better equipped than the Iconia B1, because even though they’ll still use MediaTek SoCs, these new models would graduate to one of the company’s newer quad-core components. That still leaves quite a bit unknown, but if we’re lucky we might get to hear a little more about this pair at the MWC next month.
