Microsoft’s Site References Upcoming Office For iOS

The first signs of an in-development version of Office for iOS arrived all the way back in February, but Microsoft has been very cagey about its existence ever since. We got a chance to see what appeared to be the app running on an iPad back then, and while Microsoft responded that the discovery was plagued by “bad info”, it didn’t elaborate and give us the full picture on what we could really hope to expect. Rumors have trickled out ever since, including some sourced to Microsoft’s Czech division, and about a month ago we got a look at some screenshots which seemed to show the app in action. Today we heard about some new confirmation from Microsoft itself, and while it’s not much to go by, the evidence is quite clear.

A few support pages up on Microsoft’s website make clear references to an iOS version of the Office suite. Specifically, we see mention of “Office Mobile for iPhone”, “Excel for iPad” and “PowerPoint for iPad”, which seems to verify what those recent screenshots showed, that we’d be dealing with a group of separate apps rather than an all-in-one Office.

Rumors have placed the release of Office for iOS, as well as an Android version, in early 2013.
