Stats Show Android Still Struggling With Tablet Sales
When Google’s Eric Schmidt stopped-in at Motorola’s Droid RAZR event today, he talked a bit about the sort of success Android’s been seeing. According to his latest figures, the platform is getting about 1.3 million devices activated by users worldwide, each and every day. Sure, that’s a lot, but just how many of those are phones and how many are tablets? The rest of the data’s in, and it shows that even with the great success of the Nexus 7, there’s still a long way to go if Android wants to see any kind of tablet dominance.
Out of those 1.3 million Android activations a day, a mere 70,000 of them are for tablets. That’s just a smidge over five percent, and the Nexus 7 alone is likely responsible for a good half of that number.
Our thoughts immediately turn to Samsung, which is definitely the most high-profile of Android tablet manufacturers, and with probably one of the largest stable of devices, as well. That activation figure doesn’t reflect too favorably on consumer interest in the company’s Galaxy Tab series. Was Apple worried about nothing?
