Apple May Be Readying New Headphones For iPhone 5
The upcoming release of the next iPhone is bound to introduce some big changes. Some of it’s just the next logical step along a path, like the release of iOS 6. Other changes are more radical, like the switch to a new aspect ratio for the phone’s display. Once everything’s confirmed, we’re sure we’ll be over-analyzing all the changes for weeks to follow, but for now, we’ve got early word of another change that Apple may be working on, with the leak of a new headphone design.
Rather than keeping the headphone driver front-and-center, this time Apple appears to be going with a ported design, featuring a small face-mounted grille and a larger opening to one side. As the theory goes, this design allows Apple to deliver good sound quality while making the headphones smaller and, most importantly, more comfortable.
While of course this is far from official, the circumstances under which these images and video emerged make the headphones seem legit enough, so there could be a good chance we’ll see these arrive alongside the iPhone 5. They might take some getting used to, but we’ve got enough faith in Apple’s design talents to give them the benefit of the doubt.
