Amazon Exhausts Kindle Fire Stocks; New Kindle Fire Seems Certain
Head on over to Amazon today looking to buy a Kindle Fire and you’ll be presented with a number of opportunities to buy used tablets, but won’t see any new ones for sale from Amazon itself. The company confirmed that it’s sold out of Kindle Fire stock in a press release it issued this morning, making rumors about a Kindle Fire 2 on the horizon sound pretty darn assured.
Last week, Amazon started distributing invitations to a press event scheduled for September 6. At the time, we speculated that it could concern the company’s follow-up to the first Kindle Fire, though there wasn’t much in the way of confirmation. With this news of Amazon preemptively selling off all its first-gen Fires, though, we’d say that theory is looking quite likely.
It’s also unusual for a company to so prominently announce selling out of a product like this. The only benefit such news could bring is if Amazon wants to stir-up buzz about the Fire 2 in advance of its announcement, without needing to actually give away any info on the tablet.
In his statement, CEO Jeff Bezos said, “Kindle Fire is sold out, but we have an exciting roadmap ahead—we will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability, and the best content ecosystem.”
