Amazon Announcing Kindle Fire 2 In Early September?
It seems like we’ve been talking about the follow-up to Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet all year long. Back in February, those rumors looked to the release of a Kindle Fire 2 as soon as this past May. Later, we saw those expectations slip a little, moving to late July, and later early August. Well, clearly there’s no Kindle Fire 2 just yet, but the long wait might soon be over, upon Amazon sending out invites to an upcoming event.
Early September is looking to be a super-busy time for smartphone and tablet fans. We’re expecting to learn about Nokia’s WP8 gear and Motorola’s Droid RAZR September 5, with news of the iPhone 5 arriving the following week. Between those events, Amazon has its own shindig now scheduled for September 6.
While Amazon hasn’t revealed just what this event is going to concern, the Kindle Fire 2 sounds like a very likely candidate. With the Nexus 7′s arrival, Amazon needs to step up its game to keep competing for the budget Android tablet market, especially now that Apple’s likely to release the iPad mini and draw more attention to tablets this size. There’s also the chance Amazon will have a new, larger form-factor Kindle Fire to announce alongside a new seven-incher.
