Nokia Brags About Next Lumia: Samsung, “Take Note”
It sure looks like Nokia is getting itself nice and psyched-up for the launch of its first Windows Phone 8 gear. We just heard CEO Elop talking about that hardware arriving in the “relatively near term”, followed by the company sending out invitations to a September 5 event where where we could finally see it launched. Now EVP for Sales and Marketing Chris Weber is taking to Twitter, calling out Samsung by name and boasting about the next-gen Lumia.
Nokia’s previous Lumia devices have been popular with Windows Phone die-hards, but haven’t really gotten the kind of sales the company might have been hoping for. That’s not necessarily a fault of any one handset’s design, and could largely be attributed to middling public support for Windows Phone in general. Windows Phone 8 poses an opportunity to change the perception of Windows Phone, and if Microsoft gets everything right with the launch, and promotes the new platform properly, maybe we really will see users flock to Nokia’s new hardware.
Now the big question is if Nokia is just boasting here, or if it really will have a Lumia that soundly impresses. With multi-core and HD support, WP8 has the potential to see hardware that’s way more in line with current-gen Android devices than we got with WP7. Even with stellar hardware, a phone running WP8 could still be a pretty hard sell. We wish Nokia the best here, but it’s got its work cut out for it.
Samsung take note, next generation Lumia coming soon.
