I know, the title sounds weird, but so is this new concept that’s just become news. See, wireless charging has become as big a taboo as the never-ending story of Apple’s delayed white iPhone last year. Palm showed us that they could do it quite elegantly, and still, not even their parent company HP seems interested in bringing it forward, and it just makes you wonder why they don’t continue using it.

An interesting note now has Intel working on a new technology that brings wireless charing to future smartphones starting next year. As always though, there’s a catch. First of all, the system requires that you carry an Ultrabook along with you to serve as a transmitter, while on the other hand, you’ll most likely only be able to do this on the one or two Intel-powered smartphones in the world next year.

It kind of makes you wonder if it wouldn’t be smarter to just carry a wired charger, than to have to carry a specific Ultrabook and a specific smartphone to get this done; still I praise them for trying. Probably my biggest annoyance with Wireless charging is specifically the fact that even though the wire disappears, the power brick becomes huge. In this case, even though the power brick will serve for more tha
n just charging your device, we know how Ultrabooks still don’t come cheap.
