Here’s another reason to repeat the phrase that we all know and love, TGIF! HTC has just officially released their Android 4.0.4 upgrade to the European variant of the HTC One X. I wish I could say that the upgrade works on all international models, but we still haven’t been able to prove it. It’s only reached my HTC One X at the moment, which is a German variant, but it still hasn’t reached our own Anton D. Nagy, who rocks an Asian variant for example.
Now this software upgrade provides more than just a newer version of Android. HTC upgrades Sense to version 4.1, which like in the case of the AT&T upgrade that was pushed recently, now allows you to get rid of the horrifying menu button at the bottom by mapping it to your multi-tasking hardware button through a press-and-hold. It also includes some browser improvements, camera improvements with features like white balance and continuous autofocus, and the usual bug fixes. It even includes a new EA Games app, which gives you a copy of Dead Space for free, and trials for the rest of their games.
Sadly this is no Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but I can confirm that the device does feel much faster and smoother than before. If you haven’t received the upgrade yet, try hitting the software update section in Settings/About Phone. If that doesn’t work, an alternative is to hit Settings/Apps/Google Services Framework, clear the cache and force it to stop. Once that’s done, check for the software upgrade again. If you still have no luck, just give it a couple of hours.
