LG’s next big smartphone in the US could be the Optimus LTE2, for which we’ve seen plenty of evidence suggesting the phone’s on its way to Verizon. The latest info to arrive suggest it will make its debut as the Spectrum 2, which only seems logical as the original Optimus LTE hit Verizon as the first Spectrum. As US carriers are wont to do, AT&T picked yet another name for its own Optimus LTE, and brought it to its  network as the LG Nitro HD. Owners of that handset are in for a nice treat, as the carrier has just announced the coming arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Starting next week, on July 31, AT&T subscribers will begin getting access to Ice Cream Sandwich updates for their Nitro HD handsets. Alongside the base OS upgrade, this release will bring the phone the new Optimus 3.0 UI, which LG launched with the Optimus LTE2. Combined the two software packages should give a nice shot of life to the Nitro HD, now seven months into its tenure at AT&T. From the sound of things, this one won’t be coming down OTA, and interested users will have to update with LG’s PC software.

AT&T’s got update news for users of other Androids, as well. There’s no precise ETA short of “in the coming weeks”, but both the HTC One X and the aging HTC Inspire on on-track to get updates of their own. Neither sound particularly huge; we wouldn’t bet on the One X getting Jelly Bean quite so soon. AT&T also promises more ICS updates are on the way, but doesn’t provide any new detail.
