Rumor IDs Samsung’s Mid-August Announcement, New Sprint Samsung Pictured
Last week, Samsung started sending out press invitations to an event it’s scheduled for August 15, with the promise of news regarding a “major” new galaxy-series device. We speculated a bit at the time, and while there’s still no official word on what the manufacturer has planned for that day, a new rumor attempts to confirm just what Samsung has in store.
We played around with the idea that this event might be used to launch the Galaxy Note 2, rather than holding off for an Unpacked event closer to the end of the month. Sure enough, BGR is now reporting that a source “close to Samsung” has confirmed to the site that this August 15 event will, indeed, introduce the world to the Note 2. Honestly, that makes a lot of sense, as there’s not really anything else big we’re aware of that Samsung’s been working on which it might be ready to show off next month.
We are expecting some much more minor Samsung devices to arrive in the near future, though, and among them is the company’s model SPH-L300. Last week, it saw the publication of its FCC certification paperwork, clearing the way for it to come to Sprint. Now a press shot of an unannounced Samsung Sprint model has been leaked; could it be this SPH-L300?
The pictured phone (above) is supposedly the Samsung Galaxy Reverb, and it looks very similar to the Samsung “Jasper” we saw pictured last week for Verizon. The specs attributed to this Reverb have similarities with what we know about the L300, but there are a few key differences. While both are supposed to have WVGA displays, the Reverb is only said to run a Snapdragon S2 chip, while the L300 should get a much more powerful S4. Now, it’s possible the early UAProf we got the L300 CPU info from was incorrect, and these might just be the same phone, but we’re going to need some additional evidence before we can say for certain just what’s the truth about these Sprint Samsung models.
Update: The Reverb is apparently Samsung model SPH-M950, so it looks like we really will have two new WVGA Samsung Androids for Sprint, one low- and one higher-end.
