Obviously, now that Google’s announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it will only be a matter of time before it hits the AOSP and we see the Android development community start churning-out custom Jelly Bean ROMS. For many of us, that means looking forward to the next CyanogenMod release, and in anticipation of Jelly Bean, the team has posted an announcement discussing just what that means for the project’s future.

First off, Jelly Bean will definitely be arriving as CyanogenMod 10, not 9.5 or anything like that. It’s what we’d expect anyway, and the team isn’t deviating from tradition.

The really good news is that the team doesn’t foresee adapting its code base for Jelly Bean as being much of a hassle. Obviously, without the source to refer to, it’s having to make some educated guesses, but it’s believed that the process should be relatively straightforward. That also means that it’s very likely that any device supported by CM9 will also get a CM10 release; that’s no guarantee, mind you, but it certainly has us optimistic.

For now, the CyanogenMod guys are focusing on finishing the release of CM9, and getting things nice and stable, and then turning their attention to CM10 and continued work on CM7 for older devices.
