Up to this point, we’ve heard only scattered rumors regarding Samsung’s expected follow-up to the successful Galaxy Note (above), first released last fall. The Note 2 would supposedly feature a display using new OLED fabrication techniques to create a much thinner component, and we’ve heard about October as a potential release window. Today, a new source speaks up about the Note 2, giving some new info on its display and hoping to fine-tune that release estimate a bit.

According to an “insider source” believed trustworthy by GSM Arena, the Note 2′s screen will grow slightly from the original Note’s 5.3 inches to a 5.5-inch version. Despite this scaling-up, the phone’s total width, now at 3.27 inches, is supposed to actually decrease, suggesting a barely-there bezel.

Regarding Samsung’s release plans for the Note 2, this source understands that the company is aiming for a September release, rather than waiting until fall is in full-swing. This is supposedly being orchestrated to see that the Note 2 hits retail in advance of the iPhone 5.

Considering how high expectations are for the iPhone 5, we’re not sure how much difference a slight head start will actually make in the ability for other phones to compete against it, and there’s always the threat of injunctions delaying the start of sales, but we’ll be looking for additional confirmation of this September launch, all the same.
