Nokia 808 PureView Delays Pushing Retail Availability Back To July?
When we first heard about Nokia 808 PureView pre-orders for the European market, the 41-megapixel smartphone was expected to arrive in May. Later, we saw those expectations pushed back to early June, but today we get news of an even more substantial delay, claiming that the phone won’t be available until mid-to-late July.
These reports come through UK retailer Clove, which has updated its site to reflect this new understanding about when the 808 will arrive. The confusing part is trying to read what effect this change might have on global 808 availability. Europe was never supposed to be the initial launch market for the phone, with Nokia saying that Russia and India would be getting the handset first this month. It’s also unclear if these delays Clove is anticipating are UK-specific, or would even affect retailers and carriers the same.
At least until we hear something from Nokia with more definite information on the situation, it’s probably not a good idea to bet hard on the 808 showing-up anywhere on the timeline we were previously expecting. That includes the start of sales in the US; while we didn’t have a clear idea of just when Nokia was hoping to offer the 808 in the States, it’s probably a safe bet that it’s now going to be later than the company initially planned.
