Upcoming iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak Compatibility List Grows

For the past couple weeks, we’ve had cause to be pretty optimistic about the prospects for seeing an untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak, one supporting even the new 2012 iPad, released in the very near future. Developer pod2g has been keeping us all advised as to his progress in uncovering exploits, and then adapting them into a usable jailbreak. Most recently, though, he dropped a bit of bad news for some iOS users, announcing that a key exploit didn’t appear to be working on the third generation iPod touch and the iPhone 3GS, leaving them invulnerable to this jailbreak. Today, pod2g has another update on his progress, and it’s much better news this time.

The latest post on pod2g’s blog contains an updated list of which iOS devices have been tested and confirmed to work with this jailbreak, which won’t work, and which have yet to be tested. While the 3GS is currently in that untested category, the third-gen iPod is now verified to work. In fact, even though the 3GS is untested, pod2g seems supremely confident that there will be no more problems getting the jailbreak to function on the phone, adding to his of list of untested devices the note that they should all probably work, and tweeting a separate announcement confirming that the 3GS will be supported.

As of now, the only iOS device that shouldn’t end up being supported by this jailbreak is the latest-generation Apple TV.
