What Could iPhone Production Changes Mean For Future iOS Gear?
While Apple’s not about to confirm any rumors, there seems to be a pretty good chance we’ll have a new iPhone of some sort ready to check out this fall. Today we hear about some new reports of changes to Apple’s production orders for its current-generation hardware. Just what light might that shed on the company’s plans for upcoming iOS devices?
Supposedly, Apple has already started scaling-back production of the iPhone 4S, presumably to get sales channels ready for the next iPhone taking its place. It’s not iron-clad evidence that we’ll be seeing a new iPhone a few months down the road, but such behavior is consistent with how Apple’s acted before previous iPhone releases.
The more interesting part of this report may be that Apple’s stepping-up iPad production. That could suggest that rumors of an iPad mini are unfounded, or at least that Apple doesn’t see such a tablet taking many sales away from larger iPads.
Keep in mind that this information comes from an industry analyst, rather than sources with more direct ties to Apple and its supply chain, and while these claims are supposedly backed-up by checking-in with component manufacturers, it’s difficult to say just how much might be speculation.
