New US Carrier Voyager Mobile Offers Cheap Unlimited Service

Between voice minutes, an SMS package, and a data plan, the cost of wireless service adds up fast. That’s why we’re so excited when we hear about new ideas for cutting the cost of owning a smartphone, especially when they’re set to arrive with unlimited service. In recent months, we’ve been talking about Republic Wireless, which is trying to offer $19 all-inclusive plans with unlimited data by trying to offload the bulk of its bandwidth onto private WiFi networks. A big beta test is getting underway this summer, so we’ll hopefully get a better sense of how it will perform, but if you’re in the market for something more in-line with traditional cellular service, another new carrier may have just what you’re looking for.

Voyager Mobile launches tomorrow, and in addition to some very cheap voice-only services, it will have a plan catering to smartphone users which includes unlimited voice, text, and data for $39 a month. Like the new 4G services sold through Virgin and Boost, data arrives via WiMAX, with EV-DO 3G.

For the moment, Voyager’s site is in a holding pattern as it awaits launch, so we can’t get a full sense of what it intends to offer, but there should be a selection of several Android models to choose from, including the Samsung Conquer 4G and Epic 4G Touch. The carrier’s press release also mentions Windows Phone options, but we’re unable to confirm just what that might entail.

We’re also curious to learn just what states will see initial Voyager service, as it won’t have full national coverage immediately out of the gate. That leaves quite a few details up in the air, but the allure of $39 service sure has us interested in finding out more about Voyager Mobile. Hopefully, more info will be available tomorrow.
